June through October
Butterflies have taken wing at the San Diego Botanic Garden! Join us for twice monthly Butterfly Walks to learn more about these beautiful insects and their close relationship with plants. By walking with us, you’ll also become a community scientist by helping us keep track of the types and abundance of butterflies in the Garden! Walks will be led by a garden volunteer and joined regularly by butterfly expert Dr. Michael Perry from UC San Diego and members of his lab.
Butterfly walks are free to members or with Garden admission. Walks will take place the second and fourth Mondays of the month from 10AM-12PM from June through October. A shorter one hour tour will also be available. Meet in front of the restrooms across from the entrance to Hamilton Children's Garden. The experience will vary according to the season and weather conditions. All levels are welcome. Please contact firstname.lastname@example.org with any questions.
Monthly Bird Walk
The first Monday of each month, SDBG hosts a bird walk led by our birding specialists Rita Campbell, Sue Smith, and Gretchen Nell. SDBG is a birding hotspot providing a home to our native birds, migrants, and wintering guests. Starting at 8am to get the most out of our early morning birding hours, the group searches out the greatest number of bird species in our native and ornamental gardens. The experience varies according to the season but always provides an interesting, friendly, and informative walk through the Garden. All those interested in birding, beginner to expert, are invited to attend. Click here to see the Birding Check List and Annual Reports.
