Four-Fin Basket
Instructor: Lanny Bergner – Anacortes, WA
Students will learn basic tool usage and techniques for making stainless steel mesh baskets. They will learn how to “flame paint” the mesh with a propane torch for color and patterning. They will learn wire edging enhancement techniques.

Dancing Ring

Students will coil pine needles on a prepared gourd utilizing floating coils and a Teneriffe ring they created at the beginning of the class.

Pointillism (Pen & Ink Dot) Eagle
Instructor: Robin Bryson – Quail Valley, CA
Create a unique and outstanding eagle done solely in dots. Learn a technique of shading thru dotting. This technique can be applied with other mediums. It is a very relaxing method. 8” h x 7 ½” w x 7 ½” d

Japanese Basket Purse
Instructor: Donna Crispin – Eugene, OR
Weave a bit of Japanese culture into your day by making a kinchaku kago or Japanese basket purse, large enough to carry your phone and wallet. We will twine and plait with cane and reed to create this small purse, lined with handmade paper The top portion will be a pre-made drawstring bag that we will sew onto the basket. 3” h x 7” w x 3” d (not including fabric)

Willow Bark Knitted & Stitched Basket
Instructor: Deb Curtis – Corvallis, OR
Knit a sculptural basket using willow bark as the “yarn”. Heavier willow bark will be used for the sides and the rim, if you add one. Must be able to knit and purl already. Size will vary.

Shell Lid with Porcelain Beads
Instructor: Vickie Echols – Temecula, CA
You will learn how to coil pine needles onto a prepared fancy sea shell while incorporating beads into your work. You will use the beads to fill in the gaps to turn an odd shape into a round one. Shaping techniques will be emphasized to help you get a well-fitted lid. This lid is made in two parts so you will learn how to attach a new pine needle coil to the piece of the lid you have just created. Some pine needle weaving experience will be very helpful. THIS IS FOR THE LID ONLY.

Envelope Purse

Make a colorful and useful woven pouch with painted strips of Pellon. This is a friendly material made by the teacher, flexible and strong and a great way to learn the basics of diagonal plaiting. Pouch can be finished with a button and cord closure. A selection of buttons and cords will be available. 4” h x 1” w x 7 “l

Multi Material Twined Basket

Connections
Instructor: Mary Hettmansperger – Peru, IN
Students will learn to fuse and reticulate silver to copper allowing students to create unique and creative designs. Using copper wire, students will design and assemble jewelry using a wire rivet. The possibilities are endless and Mary’s approach to making a wire rivet is easy to execute. Mary will also show other cold connections including, silver eyelets, tying and weaving techniques. Students will make several pieces of jewelry. Sizes will vary.

Lauhala Flowers

Learn how to prepare Lauhala (pandanus leaf) for weaving. This plant is common in the South Pacific. Also learn how to weave Hibiscus, and Arum Lily flowers.

Pine Needle Basket Around a Chinese Coin
Instructor: Carol E Lang – Carlsbad, CA
Learn to coil a pine needle basket around a Chinese coin. Emphasis will be on regular spacing of stitches using waxed linen. Several different stitches will be executed. Adding beads, and leaving sheath ends exposed for design purposes will be discussed and demonstrated. 1 ½” x 3” w x 3” d

Inspiration

This is a great basket to learn twining with waxed linen, a beaded foot and a braided rim. Techniques include twining, completing a row, setting up the next row, color change and how to make a pattern spiral and a double braided rim Linda will demonstrate and teach you all the techniques to make your basket.

Sculptural Sweetgrass

Using soft mellowed North West seagrass, this basket will be shaped by twining over cedar bark spokes. Students will experiment with the tension in the twining to control the shape as well as revealing the cedar spokes. 4” h x 3” w x 2 ½” l

Pour It On!

Students will learn to pour acrylic paint on the gourd provided by the instructor, then use the coiling technique with pine needles and waxed Irish linen, to complete the rim. 6” h x 6” w x 6” d

Off the Grid
Instructor: Karen Tembreull – L'Anse, MI
The base of this bias weave consists of wider birch strips and narrower willow strips. The top edge is saw tooth and tucked securely. The spruce root doubles as a rim/wall hanger handle. Add a small vase liner for a nice wall bouquet. Material will be provided for 2 baskets. Bias experience is helpful. 7” h x 3” w x 3” d

Ripples in Tsumugi

Compose a basket to your own making with prepared willow bark, yellow cedar, copper and tsumugi. Silk and wire, soft and hard, with an excellent intro for all levels to plaiting, twining and shaping barks The pleasure of learning to combine complimentary materials is a step away from pattern and into design. Judy leads you gently thru the possibities and multiple skills in this all levels workshop.

Delicately Carved Star Fish

Create a wonderfully carved star fish out of a cannon ball gourd, accentuated with filigree around it. This will give the gourd the illusion of depth without carving deep. 4” h x 6 ½” w x 6 ½” d

Woven Figurative Rattle

We will start with a ceramic face bead and form to construct, and then weave a variety of fibers, wire, and threads to cover the body. Donna will provide some beads for embellishments. 8” h x 3 ½” w

Folded Birch Bark Trays

Make two or more folded birch bark trays in this class. You’ll learn tips and tricks for working with and folding birch bark. Add a rim of your choice from cedar bark, willow bark, North West sweetgrass, more birch bark or something you bring from home. Size will vary.

Triple Handle Basket with Glass Beads

You will learn to coil pine needles onto the rim of a prepared gourd to create your unique basket. This basket is worked using a continuous pine needle coil. You will learn how to make floating coils that will be turned into handles. You will learn how to add beads to your coiling and how to make a smooth ending to finish off your basket. 6”h x 5” w x 5” d

Stick Sling Basket

This is a fun little project that can be made two inches long or twenty. It all depends on the stick. Use copper wire to shape a knotless netting sling with a stick handle.

Tree of Life

A “tree” will be constructed from copper wire, a metal hoop and chip beads. Samples will be shown and the design will be done by the student. A channel will be carved into the gourd to allow the metal hoop to sit comfortably in the gourd opening. 10” x 10” w x 10”d.

Wisp of the Willow

Students will thread a base of cedar bark through a vintage spigot handle. An overlaid hexagonal base is added. The basket is twined with Iris leaves, and
wrapped twined with willow bark. An optional wisp may be added; finishing with

Shadow Boxes with Torch Fire Enameling
Instructor: Mary Hettmansperger – Peru, IN
Using copper sheeting with silver sheeting for accents, students will create jewelry. They will learn many ways to create a shadowbox necklace from copper. Patinas will enhance the surface and allow for unique results. Once several shadow boxed are made, students will create inserts for the box using torch fire enameled surfaces. Fold form techniques will be used to create depth and
interest with some of the inserts. Cold connections, including wire rivets, eyelets, brads, ties and weaving techniques, will be used to assemble the pieces. Broaches, necklaces, and earrings will all be made and students will go
home with many samples and finished work. Fun and fast paced. Sizes will vary.

Students will explore several types and styles of woven bracelets and headbands using natural materials. Students can expect to complete 1 or 2 bracelets. Pattern boards will be available for duplication. This is a great skill building class. Sizes will vary.
