Dr. Colin Khoury, SDBG's Senior Director of Science and Horticulture, reviews 100 years of evidence, thoughts on future research, and an outline of steps needed to mitigate, stem, and reverse further losses. This lecture is presented as part of the GROW (Genebank Resources on the Web) monthly webinar series hosted by the Genebank Platform at the Consortium of International Agricultural Research Centers (CGIAR).

Flower Petal Painting Using Real Flowers
Have fun creating art with inspiration from nature and using actual flowers and leaves from your garden. Produce beautiful works of art with this easy and unique art technique. All skill levels welcome!
Recommended materials that are not provided: flowers of various colors, leaves, and thick paper. We will discuss how to enhance your design with watercolors as well, so if you would like to try that, you will need watercolor paints, brushes, and watercolor paper.

Take a virtual trip behind the scenes with us as we show you the entire process, from propagating succulent cuttings to designing and building a decorative wreath. Virtual Drip Irrigation Basics
Water costs are sky high! Most people also have poorly installed irrigation systems that are very inefficient. In this class we will teach you how to convert your fan spray or gear driven sprinklers into super-efficient in-line drip irrigation. You’ll save lots of water and have healthier plants. We will provide a detailed parts list and teach you how to install your system.
Virtual Native Plant Gardening
Learn about San Diego’s unique and diverse native plant ecosystems during a virtual tour of SDBG’s natural areas with Tony Gurnoe, Director of Horticulture. We will also discuss how to plant and care for native species in your own garden to help you create a more sustainable, beautiful, and easy to maintain landscape. Native plants to put into your home garden are included.
Virtual Fruit Trees 101
You can successfully grow dozens of types of fruit trees in San Diego!
Learn how to select and maintain trees and virtually tour our Subtropical Fruit Garden. We will cover proper selection, obtaining and planting for the bare root season, fertilization, and pruning of San Diego’s most popular fruit trees.

Heart Luminary Workshop
Transform your own watercolor painting into a glowing luminary to share with your loved ones. We will take inspiration from the red flowers that grow in the Garden, as well as discuss how you can use something as simple as celery to make heart prints! This class is fun and easy. All skill levels welcome!
Recommended materials that are not provided: watercolor paints, watercolor paper, brushes, glue (hot glue works best, but white glue works well), celery, and a battery-powered candle.
Virtual Air Plant Workshop
Air plants are some of the most captivating yet easiest Bromeliads to grow. Also known as Tillandsias, these plants can be used in a variety of ways for any home décor. Learn where air plants come from and proper care techniques, take a virtual tour of the Dickinson Family Education Conservatory with Jeremy Bugarchich, our Tillandsia expert and Curator, and create your own mounted air plant display in the comfort of your own home.
