Common Name: Flaming Sword Bromeliad
Growth Habit: Native to Eastern Venezuela, Trinidad, and the Guianas. Vriesea splendens is Epiphytic, meaning it naturally grows on trees. The plant is also monocarpic, meaning that it will die after flowering but will produces pups, or plantlets, easily for replication.
Cultural Requirements: Full shade to light shade with regular watering. Prefers temperature between 60-80 degrees Fahrenheit.
Features/Uses: Showy bright red flowers extend from the base to about 2’ – 3’ tall. It is a great choice for a shaded boarder, attached to a tree, in a container, or used as an indoor plant.
