Common Name: Chaste Tree
Growth Habit: The Chase tree is most often used as a deciduous shrub growing from 10 to 15 feet tall or more.
Cultural Requirements: It blooms and grows best in full sun and prefers well-draining soils. If given regular water during the establishment period it can tolerate some drought conditions periodically. It is winter hardy down to about 0 degrees Fahrenheit.
Features/Uses: Since the Vitex agnus-castus blooms on new growth, the lavender to pale violet flowers will still be abundant if pruned heavily in winter or early spring. Great color for planting beds, attracting butterflies, or can be pruned as a small flowering tree.
Bloom Time: Summer
Where In the Garden: Bird & Butterfly Garden, Herb Garden, and Canary Islands Garden.
