Education Volunteers

Working with the Education Department, volunteer duties focus on children and family activities, including gardening in our kid-friendly Incredible Edibles Garden, and assisting with science and art activities as part of SAPLinGS (Science, Art and PLay in Garden Spaces) programming.

Incredible Edibles Gardener

Functions:
Maintain the Incredible Edibles Garden as a model demonstration garden, including weeding, pruning, supplemental watering, and general garden maintenance. Regularly check the area for safety as it is popular amongst children.

Knowledge or Training Required:
The SDBG Horticulture team will share best practices seasonally or as needed, however previous gardening experience is an advantage. Training will be provided.

Competencies:
Capable of weeding, planting, watering, and other general gardening duties; ability to follow detailed instructions and work independently.

Children’s Garden

Functions:
Focus on science and art activities or work within the Incredible Edible Garden to interact with guests on a variety of topics focused on the daily and seasonal happenings in the Garden.

Knowledge or Training Required:
Previous experience gardening and working with children is preferred but not required

Competencies:
Interest in working directly with children and families; ability to follow detailed instructions and work independently.
