Conservatory Volunteers

Conservatory volunteers assist in maintaining areas at or near our 8,000 square foot glass enclosed Dickinson Family Educational Conservatory. Located at the main entrance of the Garden, these volunteers are often among the first to greet and interact with guests when they enter.

Welcome Ambassador

Functions
Greet visitors as they enter and exit the Garden. Answer general questions and give directions, point out our digital map, distribute any educational materials (i.e. scavenger hunt), and advise on places to visit. Promote Garden membership and programming, and ensure visitors have the information they need to have an enjoyable experience. 

Knowledge or Training Required
Have general knowledge about the Garden and comfortable giving directions. General knowledge of Garden membership and programming is also preferred. 

Competencies
Enjoy offering exceptional customer service to our visitors; ability to work in a fast-paced environment; ability to direct and manage crowds, as needed.

Conservatory Ambassador

Functions:
Greet visitors as they enter the Conservatory and engage visitors with information about the plant collection and Conservatory building. Answer general questions about the Garden and programming.

Knowledge or Training Required:
Have knowledge about the Garden, Conservatory plant collection and building. Comfortable giving directions. General knowledge of Garden membership and programming is also preferred. 

Competencies:
Enjoy offering exceptional customer service to our visitors; ability to work in a fast-paced environment

Garden Ambassador

Functions:
Provide directions and information about Garden history and plant collections. Provide visitor feedback to Garden Staff to continually improve the visitor experience. 

Knowledge or Training Required:
Have general knowledge about the plant collections and are comfortable giving directions.

Competencies:
Enjoy offering exceptional customer service to our visitors

Gift Shop

Functions:
Interact with guests who visit the shop by processing retail transactions and maintaining an orderly and clean appearance throughout the Gift Shop. Assist, as directed by SDBG staff, with stocking, displaying and tagging of merchandise. Greet and respond to visitor questions or feedback. 

Knowledge or Training Required:
Operate Point of Sale systems and manage financial transactions. Gift Shop training will be provided and required. 

Competencies:
Enjoy interacting with the public and providing exceptional customer service to our visitors; ability to positively interact and constructively work with diverse volunteers, staff members and visitors.
